HUNGRY LOW-INCOME SENIORS WILL BENEFIT FROM SPECIAL DONATION TO PASADENA SENIOR CENTER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Low-income older adults in the greater Pasadena area who find it hard to make ends meet come to the Pasadena Senior Center the first Friday of every month from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for a 30-day allotment of groceries.

The food, provided in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, consists of canned and boxed items and other non-perishable foods.

Thanks to a donation from Brent Chang, a local real estate agent and supporter of the Pasadena Senior Center, people who come for food distribution Friday, Dec. 7, will also receive grocery gift cards they will be able to use toward the purchase of fresh proteins such as chicken and turkey.

Chang will present the check to the Pasadena Senior Center Monday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m.

“My heart goes out to hungry seniors, particularly at this time of year,” he said. “I’m happy my donation will provide needed protein and nourishment to older adults throughout our community.”

Eligibility requirements for the food distribution program include a California ID and an income statement. Recipients must be 60 or older and bring their own portable, personal grocery carts.

“We are enormously grateful to Brent Chang for his generous donation, which will make it possible for the food distribution program to go above and beyond the normal service,” said Akila Gibbs, executive director of the Pasadena Senior Center. “This will help make the season brighter for so many.”

Founded in 1960, the Pasadena Senior Center is an independent nonprofit agency that offers recreational, educational, wellness and social services to people ages 50 and older in a welcoming environment. Services are also provided for frail, low-income and homebound seniors.
