About the Instructors
Don Chubbuck has been teaching people how to
use the computer longer than he can remember. He is a local boy, born in
Altadena. Don started to teach for the Center at the Baptist Church – in
a very hot room. He keeps his class on the light side to make it easer
to learn. The Beginners Workshop covers basic computer hardware, Windows
desktop, word processor and the use of the tool bars. The Advanced
Beginners class starts with Excel spreadsheets and the use of a simple
database, with the word processor. Former students are always welcome
to come back to clear up any lingering questions.
Louis “Lou” Steinhauer has been teaching
classes at the Center for two years. Lou’s goal in teaching the
Beginners Internet Workshop is to support beginners in overcoming their
concerns about using the Internet. Students learn the basics of
searching for information and using email in a friendly and supportive
atmosphere. A typical response in Lou’s class is, “Wow! Look at that!”
If you would like to use the Internet, but are fearful – Lou’s class is
for you. Knowing how to use the mouse and keyboard is desirable for this
class.
Hank Tobin has been
teaching computer classes at the Center for over 14 years. His main
objective is to have newcomers get over their fear of using a computer
and to show them how they can have fun doing so. His Beginning class
gives instruction on the hardware and software of computers, as well as
an introduction to word processing and spreadsheets. His Advanced class
covers more on these last two applications. Former students always stop
by to let him know how well they are doing or to present him with
particular problems they have been experiencing.
