Library Volunteer: The Library is looking for volunteers so we may stay open more hours. If you can devote at least one, 4-hour shift per week, please see Walter in the Library or leave a message at (626) 685-6750. Library Volunteers are also needed on a "stand-by" basis. So, if you enjoy a quiet environment and have some basic knowledge of computers, join the Library volunteer team and meet interesting people!


Fitness Center: Join our Fitness Center volunteer team today! We are looking for helpful and friendly individuals to staff our Fitness Center and supervise as seniors work out. To learn more, call Raul at (626) 685-6706.

AIDS Service Center: The AIDS Service Center in Pasadena serves and assists clients in the Pasadena and San Gabriel areas, and is looking for volunteers to contribute a minimum of three hours or more a week to participate in the "Hot Tickets" program which provides tickets to educational and cultural experiences for our clients. Additionally, we are seeking a volunteer Hot Tickets program coordinator that would oversee and manage the operation. These volunteer positions entail communicating with clients and soliciting tickets from theatres and various organizations. Only volunteers who will be able to commit a minimum of one day a week for at least three hours a day will be considered. The coordinator position would entail organizing the distribution of tickets and maintaining a strong network of venue contacts. An individual who would be able to come in for at least three days a week would be preferred. Please call Bianca Paraguya at (626) 441-8495 ext. 228 between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. American Red Cross: Would you like to get out and meet people while volunteering for an internationally recognizednon-profit organization? If so, then come and spend 4 to 5 hours with the American Red Cross Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The American Red Cross located at 430 Madeline Drive, Pasadena, just off Orange Grove, is in need of volunteer to answer phones and to do some light clerical work. Bob Hope Airport:  The Bob Hope Airport is looking for volunteers to act as greeters!  Their primary function will be to enhance the experience of Airport visitors.  Volunteers will move throughout the terminal to help passengers find their way around the Bob Hope Airport and answer their questions.  They will roam the check-in lines offering assistance and tips on how to prepare for a speedier security screening.  Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., one day per week, Monday, Thursday or Friday.  Must be willing to complete one initial 6-hour class and be fingerprinted.  To volunteer or obtain information, please contact the City of Burbank, RSVP Director Dee Call, at (818) 238-5370 or by e-mail at dcall@ci.burbank.ca.us.

Boys & Girls Club:  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena is looking for community volunteers to help out in the Administrative Offices, answering phones, preparing for Board meetings, assisting with mailings and general filing.  The offices are located at 3230 East Del Mar Blvd.in Pasadena. Jisan Research Institute: The Jisan Research Institute, founded by Dr. Sanza Kazadi, a Caltech alumnus, is trying to help educate students in the 8th through 12th grades in the areas needed to get them into careers that might provide solutions to problems such as global warming, disease, water availability, and energy sources. This is accomplished by guiding students as they take on and solve problems that other seasoned scientists might try to solve. Come volunteer at the Jisan Research Institute, and help us help young people learn how to solve some of the world's biggest problems. Volunteers help with light office work, attendance, and assist in classrooms. For more information, call (626) 568-0500.

Neighborhood Connections - Bulk Mailing: Volunteers with 3-5 hours free every other Thursday afternoon are needed to place our newsletter and other flyers into about 600 envelopes, then seal them. Old Pasadena Management District - Information Kiosk:  The Old Pasadena Management District has purchased an information kiosk and is currently looking for community volunteers to staff it on a part-time basis.  The kiosk has a map of Old Pasadena on the top and will be filled with informational brochures.  It will be located outdoors in Old Pasadena during peak times, for a couple of hours each day, for example the lunch rush during the week, and daytime on the weekends. Volunteers are encouraged to work in teams and will be equipped with a radio in order to communicate with the Old Pasadena Guides.  A good working knowledge of Pasadena and Old Pasadena is preferred.  Shifts vary and are flexible, if interested call (626) 666-4156. 

Ombudsman: Do you want to make a difference? Become an Ombudsman! Volunteer Ombudsmen are needed to visit Nursing Homes and Residential Care Homes for the Elderly to investigate complaints by residents and/or their loved ones and to advocate on their behalf. They also serve as a resource for consumers and family members concerning their rights, benefits and alternative living options. Each volunteer must participate in a 36-hour training course that is available locally to complete the requirement for state certification as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman.  If you want to become an Ombudsman or if you have questions about the program, contact your local Ombudsman office by calling Craig Pedersen (626) 294-9123 or email to cpedersen@wiseseniors.org.

PAL Center: The PAL Center, an after school program located on Salvation Army property, is looking for volunteers to assist with various programs.  Volunteers interested in the following areas are needed: music, art, dance and reading. The PAL Center provides care for children from 3 to 6 p.m. The membership fee for parents is only $5 a year. While there are numerous admirable youth programs in operation, PAL is unique in that it adds one key element - the police officer.  Many police officers volunteer their time and effort to make the PAL Center successful. For more information, call Nicole Bazzo at (626) 744-7658.

Pasadena City Hall: If you are retired or looking for customer service training, Pasadena's interim city hall at 117 E. Colorado Blvd. might be just the place for you.  Friendly folks are being recruited for the information desk and will move with city employees back to the permanent Pasadena City Hall on Garfield Avenue later this year. Volunteers are trained to assist customers and tourists in finding their way to city government offices and to arts and cultural institutions, restaurants and more.  Each new volunteer is trained by a seasoned volunteer and works a five-hour shift once a week or as a rover. Pops Volunteer Guild: The Pasadena Pops Volunteer Guild is dedicated to assisting in the promotion and support of the activities of the Pasadena POPS Orchestra. The Guild is a nonprofit, membership organizations made up of people from all walks of life. Their common bond is a desire to bring the excitement and inspiration of live orchestral music to others and to have fun in the process! Roosevelt School:   The Roosevelt School is seeking volunteers to lead recreation activities for elementary children one or more days per week (Monday - Friday). Engage children in fun activities during the midday recess starting at 11:45 am to 1:00 pm.  Be a positive influence in young children's lives while you lead in them in games of sport, arts, crafts, board games or chess.  Roosevelt School is located at 315 N Pasadena Ave in Pasadena, just a few blocks north of the freeway. Summerville Senior Living:  Volunteers needed to assist senior residents with Mahjong, bingo, arts, crafts, conversation, and reading. Located in Alhambra. Please call Holly at (626) 289-3871

Translators:   Simplification and globalization of languages is a priority for improving intercultural and interpersonal communication. It is also important for assimilating newcomers into the American mainstream of life. Transitional English and Global Dialects, a nonprofit organization, is seeking bilingual volunteers to prepare translations into different languages of the Transitional English text, as it is found in the Translator's Working Text version at www.uky.edu/Projects/Globlec/. Especially needed are bilingual volunteers with knowledge of any of the following languages: Armenian, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Japanese and Russian. Bilingual volunteers of other tongues are also welcome to participate. The popular, simplified Transitional English for Speakers of Spanish, located at the above site, will serve as the model for the new translations. Union Station Foundation:  If you've ever wondered how you can make a difference in the lives of the homeless, come and join us at the San Gabriel Valley's largest homeless shelter.  Volunteers are especially needed in our Adult Shelter Kitchen located at 412 S.
