Champs Whose your DafddyThe Pasadena sponsored team, Whose Your Daddy, won the championship of the Intercity Senior Coed Softball League, defeating the Diamond Bar Rascals, 7 to 6. It was a close game, with the lead changing several times before Whose Your Daddy pushed across the winning run in the final inning. The championship game, played November 8, was in Diamond Bar at Pantera Park. The league, consisting of nearly 200 players from five cities, including Pasadena, plays a nine-month softball season, from March to November. Along with Pasadena, other cities in the league are Duarte, Diamond Bar, Commerce, and South El Monte. All players are 50 years of age or older, and each team must have a minimum of three women to play 11 players on the field. A game is 7 innings long.

Whose Your Daddy, one of four Pasadena teams playing under the name Crown Valley, fielded a team whose age ranged from the early 50’s to as old as 82. To get to the finals, Whose Your Daddy beat another Diamond Bar team, the Classics, 12 to 4, in the semifinal game.

The league is open to all, with emphasis on having fun. The range of skill is enormous, but many players have picked the game back up after not playing for 20, 30, or even 40 years. Pasadena is blessed with some of the best weather in the nation, and many games are played with the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains in the background.

Softball includes a certain amount of running, and like all outdoor sports, can present difficulties as seniors. Through the season all the teams dealt with injuries, some minor, some not so much.
Batting practice and a pick up game are played every Monday at Farnsworth Park in Altadena, starting 8:00 am and every Thursday during the winter months at Arcadia County Park off Santa Anita. The practice is open to everyone.
