It is with deep regret that we announce that the Pasadena Senior Games will not go forward in 2021 as we had hoped. I share your frustration and sadness that the same issues that caused our cancellation in 2020 are still concerns one year later.
All indicators point to continued restrictions on seniors in Los Angeles County for some time to come. Senior Games take months of planning to book venues, set up registration, hire officials, recruit hundreds of volunteers, and handle all the other elements that are required to produce safe and satisfying competitions. The uncertainty around the timetable of containment of the virus precludes the Pasadena Senior Games traditional dates of May & June, and rescheduling later in the year is not an option for us this year. Therefore it is with reluctance that we have decided to bypass 2021, and plan for a celebratory return to the Pasadena Senior Games in 2022.
It is possible that other Games in California, in different regions and not scheduled for the spring, will be able to go forward this year. The San Diego Senior Games, current host the California State Games, is hopeful that they will be able to go forward as scheduled in September/October. Information will be posted on their website sdseniorgames.org. For information the status and schedules of other California Senior Games, visit californiaseniorgames.org.
As a way to keep us all connected during this challenging time, the Pasadena Senior Games has teamed up the California Senior Games Association to produce a monthly sports-oriented Zoom panel discussion, focusing on a different Senior Games sport each month. March 8 will highlight Swimming and April 12 will focus on Cycling.
A note on the National Senior Games:
Due to the same concerns we are all experiencing, the National Senior Games Association has rescheduled the National Senior Games in Ft. Lauderdale from November 2021 to May 2022. NSGA has also announced special qualifying rules for the 2022 Games due to the ongoing disruption of local and state competitions. For full information, visit nsga.com.
Stay safe, and stay healthy! Hope to see you at the 2022 Pasadena Senior Games.
