JESSE EVANS TURNS 100: PASADENA SENIOR CENTER HONORS FITNESS ICON WITH SURPRISE CELEBRATION

The Pasadena Senior Center is thrilled to honor the remarkable 100th birthday of Jesse Evans, a beloved and dedicated member of the Pasadena Senior Center, with a surprise celebration. Known for his incredible commitment to fitness, Jesse works out at PSC’s Fitness Center five days a week without fail. This special event, scheduled for March 12, is a celebration of both an extraordinary milestone and an extraordinary life, filled with resilience, dedication, and inspiration.

Born in Logan, West Virginia, Jesse worked in coalmines from a tender age before serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the war, his sister gifted him a ticket to California, where he began a new chapter as a gardener for the City of Pasadena. Even in retirement, Jesse stayed active through long walks, and until recently, hiking. His incredible physical condition and unwavering spirit are attributed to a lifetime of hard work and clean living.

Jesse's mantra, to "keep on rolling," has made him a source of inspiration to his fellow members at the Pasadena Senior Center, where he is a living testament to the benefits of an active lifestyle. He even returned to the Fitness Center just days after hip surgery, demonstrating his commitment to staying fit.

"We are immensely proud to have Jesse as a member of our community," said Akila Gibbs, Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center. "His enduring spirit embodies the ethos we promote at the center - that aging well involves staying physically active and connected within a community."

Jesse’s sons, his early morning workout companions, and many friends from the center will be present to celebrate. Known for his punctuality, Jesse arrives at Pasadena Senior Center at 8 am sharp. Media and community members are invited to join us at 7:30 am to surprise Jesse and celebrate this significant milestone in his life.

For 65 years, Pasadena Senior Center’s mission has been to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism. With 10,000 Americans per day becoming older adults, the center is a leader in addressing issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population group.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. To learn more visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call 626-795-4331.
