COSMIC COCKTAIL HOUR WITH CARNEGIE OBSERVATORIES VIA ZOOM FEB. 3 FEATURING HUBBLE DEEP-SPACE IMAGE WILL BE SPONSORED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
Dr. John Mulchaey, director of Carnegie Observatories, will make a presentation on Zoom titled “The Hubble Telescope and the Ultra-Deep Space Image” Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m.
The revolutionary image was captured when the telescope was aimed at a tiny piece of sky previously assumed to be empty space. It revealed as many as 10,000 galaxies of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages never seen before.
To discover and photograph the galaxies, astronomers pushed the telescope to distance limits never achieved before. The galaxies are from 13 billion years ago — just 600 to 800 years after the Big Bang.
The cost is only $7 for Pasadena Senior Center members and $10 for nonmembers 50 and older.
Pour your favorite beverage, sit back, relax and enjoy this next offering in a monthly series of fascinating and educational topics.
To register for this Zoom event, visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and click on Events, Clubs and Lectures, then Online Events. Everyone who registers will receive an email link to access the presentation, which will include a Q and A.
