SAMPLE WINTER CLASSES FOR FREE AT PASADENA SENIOR CENTER

The Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., offers dozens of classes for members, ranging from ballroom dance and creative writing to yoga and Zumba Gold.

As the Jan. 10 registration deadline for winter classes approaches, members and non-members of the Pasadena Senior Center can sample the most popular offerings for free by attending mini-class sessions, meeting the instructors and learning more about the courses.

Sample classes, known as Class Tasting, will take place Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Monday, Jan. 6

  • 9 to 9:30 a.m. – Beginner Tai Chi in the West Pavilion
  • 9:30 to 10 a.m. – Advanced Tai Chi in the West Pavilion
  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. – The Art and Joy of Sewing in the Cliff Benedict Room
  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. – Learn Spanish Through Acting in the Community Room
  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. – Pep Up Your Life (strength, balance, flexibility) in the West Pavilion
  • 10:30 to 11 a.m. – Yoga (Saturday class) in the West Pavilion
  • 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. – French classes in the Community Room
  • 11 to 11:30 a.m. – Chair Aerobics in the West Pavilion
  • 11 to 11:30 a.m. – Fall Awake Meditation in the Dance Studio
  • 11 a.m. to noon – Computers for Beginners/Advanced Beginners in the Computer Lab
  • 11:30 a.m. to noon – Exercises for Arthritis in the West Pavilion
  • 11:30 a.m. to noon – Fake News/Making Sense of News in the Community Room

Tuesday, Jan. 7

  • 9 to 9:30 a.m. – Alexander Technique (feel livelier, achieve more balance, think more clearly) in the Dance Studio
  • 9 to 9:30 a.m. – Zumba Gold in the West Pavilion
  • 9 a.m. to noon – Women Members’ Running Club in the Lobby area
  • 9:15 a.m. – Pilates in the East Pavilion
  • 9:30 to 10 a.m. – Ballroom Dance in the Dance Studio
  • 9:30 to 10 a.m. – Qigong and Tai Chi in the West Pavilion
  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. – BollyX (Bollywood-inspired, low-impact fitness)
  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. – Tap in the Dance Studio
  • 10:30 to 11 a.m. – Music for Wellness in the West Pavilion
  • 11 to 11:30 a.m. – English Conversation in the Community Room
  • 11 to 11:30 a.m. – International Folk Dance in the West Pavilion
  • 11:30 a.m. to noon – Creative Writing in the Community Room
  • 11:30 a.m. to noon – Yoga (morning class) in the West Pavilion

How to Register

The regular winter class schedule will be offered beginning Jan. 13 and will continue weekly through mid-March. Most classes are once a week and some are twice a week. After sampling classes for free Jan. 6 and 7, register at www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org (click on Classes and Lectures, then Register Online) or pick up a registration form at the Welcome Desk. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 10.

Membership at the Pasadena Senior Center is required to attend regular weekly classes throughout the year. The membership fee is only $45 annually and includes many benefits. Register for membership at www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org/membership or at the Welcome Desk.

Most classes range from $30 to $50. Scholarships for low-income members are available on a limited basis. Ask for scholarship information and applications at the Welcome Desk.

Founded in 1960, the Pasadena Senior Center is an independent, donor-supported nonprofit organization that offers recreational, educational, wellness and social services to people ages 50 and older in a welcoming environment. Services are also provided for frail, low-income and homebound seniors.
