Historian Galen Wilkes shares the story of the illustrated song - a lost entertainment and industry of song plugging.  This grandfather of the music video had its heyday from 1894 to 1914.  Photographic glass slides, hand-painted in color, were projected on the big screen to accompany singers in vaudeville and nickel theaters to sell the latest songs.
