‘LOOKING AT POLITICS’ WITH LMU PROFESSOR MICHAEL GENOVESE DURING THE WINTER MASTERS SERIES AT PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
The winter term of the popular Masters Series at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., scheduled for Tuesdays, Jan. 21 and Jan. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Masters Series, which embraces and promotes lifelong learning, is open to members of the Pasadena Senior Center and nonmembers.
The winter term, with the theme ‘Looking at Politics,’ lead by Michael Genovese who will share his views of the current political climate and how art and politics intersect.
During these two sessions, Dr. Genovese, a professor of political science at LMU, author and frequent political commentator, will focus his lectures on the recent presidential election first and then how art influences politics. He has a deep understanding of presidential politics. He will explore the intersection of art and politics with humor, and the insights as presented in his new book, Art, Power, and Politics: Political Storytelling in Paintings, Music and Movies.
To attend both lectures the cost is only $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Individual lecture tickets may be purchased for $15 for members and $18 for nonmembers. Reservations are suggestions and tickets will be available at the door.
January 21: “The 2024 Presidential Election: What Happened and What Does it Mean for the Nation’s Future.” Throughout the election cycle and its aftermath, Professor Genovese has been a go-to non-partisan political commentator for numerous media outlets. He brings his expertise to share with us his insights on this historic and divisive election.
January 28: “Art and Politics: Our Unconventional Road to Political Understanding.” In his new book Art, Power, and Politics: Political Storytelling in Paintings, Music and Movies, Dr. Genovese looks at how the power of "the story" overwhelms our judgment and seduces us. In this session he’ll explore how our brains are hard-wired to respond to stories, not statistics or even rational arguments.
Michael A. Genovese holds the Loyola Chair of Leadership Studies, and is Professor of Political Science, Director of the Institute for Leadership Studies, and President of the Global Policy Institute at LMU. In 2017, he was awarded the American Political Science Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Professor Genovese has written over 50 books, including How Trump Governs: The Trumping of American Politics, and Leadership Matters (with Thomas E. Cronin, named Outstanding Leadership Book of the Year by the International Leadership Association). He frequently appears as a commentator on local, national, and international television and radio. During the presidency of George H.W. Bush, Genovese served as a consultant on crisis management at the Department of Defense.
