PASADENA SENIOR CENTER HOSTS HEALTH FAIR AND DISTRIBUTION FOR OLDER ADULTS AFFECTED BY THE EATON FIRE
Food, supplies, water, and hygiene products will be available
The Pasadena Senior Center, located at 85 East Holly St., will host a special event for older adults affected by the Eaton Fire. The event will take place from 9 AM to 11 AM on Friday, Jan. 17, focusing on health and well-being.
During this essential gathering, the Pasadena Senior Center will offer a variety of free health services including glucose tolerance tests, blood pressure measurements, and hearing tests. These services aim to provide crucial health insights and support to the senior community in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire.
Kathy Eastwood, RN from Huntington Health, along with Dr. Laura Mosqueda, a geriatrician at Keck Medicine, and Dr. Anthony Hou, a geriatrician from Kaiser Permanente, will conduct health assessments and respond to any medical inquiries from attendees. Their expertise in geriatric health ensures that attendees receive top-notch advice and care.
In addition to health services, the event will offer fresh fruits and vegetables, water, hygiene products, and other food items, catering to the basic needs of the attendees. The Pasadena Senior Center emphasizes the importance of not only addressing immediate health concerns but also the general well-being of those affected by the Eaton Fire.
"We have been working around the clock to contact older adults to assess the needs they are facing," said Executive Director Akila Gibbs. "We will have on hand a lot of important information to pass out to attendees," Gibbs added, highlighting the Center's proactive approach in providing assistance and information to the community.
Since the Eaton Fire, the Pasadena Senior Center has been in touch with more than 2,000 seniors, making wellness calls and responding to numerous inquiries. The Center expresses deep concern for seniors who frequented the Altadena Senior Center, which burned down, and invites them to join the upcoming event and lunch gatherings as part of their outreach and support efforts.
The Pasadena Senior Center's initiative serves as a beacon of hope and resilience, offering a space for healing, health assessment, and community support in the wake of the Eaton Fire. The Center encourages all eligible older adults to attend and benefit from the variety of resources available on Friday.
For 65 years, the Pasadena Senior Center’s mission has been to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism. With 10,000 Americans per day becoming older adults, the center is a leader in addressing issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population group.
As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. To learn more visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call 626-795-4331.
