JOIN STAGED READING OF PLAY ‘DEAR LIAR’ SET FOR JUNE 26 AT PASADENA SENIOR CENTER’S CULTURAL THURSDAY EVENT

Learn about the special relationship between playwright George Bernard Shaw and his muse in a special staged reading of the play ‘Dear Liar’ in a Cultural Thursday presentation on Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center (PSC).

The event is free for Pasadena Senior Center members, and $5 for non-members and reservations are suggested. To register or for more information, visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and click on Cultural Thursdays, then Informational Lectures, or call 626-795-4331.

Playwright Shaw, the author of ‘Pygmalion’ (which was adapted to become the 1964 film ‘My Fair Lady’), was bespotted by English theater star Mrs. Patrick Campbell, and wrote the leading role of Eliza Doolittle expressly for her. Campbell, also known as Stella Tanner, and Shaw had decades-long tempestuous, but ultimately unconsummated, relationship. The 1957 play ‘Dear Liar’ by Jerome Kilty chronicles their relationship through their magnificent exchange of letters.

Discover a world of jousting wits, hidden longings and shared pain as two great artists find, lose and find each other again over the course of a life in the theatre. The play will be read by veteran actors Tom Laskey and Carmen Rupe.

For 65 years, Pasadena Senior Center’s mission has been to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism. With 10,000 Americans per day becoming older adults, the center is a leader in addressing issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population group.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. To learn more visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call 626-795-4331.
