FREE OCTOBER EVENTS HOSTED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout October. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend.
Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required. Registration links can be found at www.PasadenaSeniorCenter.org. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.

Preserving Your Memory – Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. As we age, we all have moments of forgetfulness. This presentation will provide useful tips, and brain exercises to sharpen your thinking and help keep moments of forgetfulness to a minimum. Registration is required for this online event. Insurance Claim Workshop: A Road to Recovery Program Workshop – Friday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to Noon for Older Adults; Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to Noon for all, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by United Policyholders. This workshop will focus on helping wildfire survivors navigate the often-overwhelming process of completing their contents claim inventories. Attendees will receive practical guidance and tools to organize their claims more effectively and will also learn about options for negotiating insurance settlements, particularly the possibility of reaching a fair payout without having to fully itemize every lost item. The goal is to reduce stress, save time, and empower participants to make informed decisions as they work toward financial recovery. Sponsored by Pasadena Assistance League. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Oct. 3: “The Oxbow Incident” (1943, NR) starring Henry Fonda and Dana Andrews. A pair of wanderers join a posse to apprehend fugitive cattle rustlers in this classic Western. Oct. 10: “King of Hearts” (1966, PG) starring Alab Bates and Genevieve Bujold. A Scottish soldier is sent to a French town to disarm a bomb, and finds it deserted save for the residents of a local asylum, who declare him their king. Oct. 17: “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" (1964, NR) starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. A trio of romantic comedies taking place across Italy. Oct. 24: “Shine” (1996, PG-13) starring Justin Braine and Sonia Todd. A now-grown child piano prodigy grapples with his mental health.Oct. 31: “Spirited Away” (2002, PG-13) starring Daveigh Chase and Suzanne Pleshette. Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Oct. 3, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Each box includes foods that meet specific nutritional needs, such as cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products, and more. Proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients. Boxes are heavy, so bring a pull-behind personal cart to the parking lot between the Pasadena Senior Center and the Metro Gold Line station. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Windows Computer Upgrade – Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to Noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Kevin Tsai. Is your Windows computer ready for the future? Join us for a free computer upgrade event! This matters because after October 14, 2025, Microsoft will stop providing security updates for Windows 10 (and older) versions. Without these updates, your computer will be vulnerable to viruses and malware. We will back-up your computer data, upgrade your computer to Windows 11 if possible, and provide digital safety tips. Bring a computer with Windows 10 (or older), the computer's charging cable, and a flash (thumb) drive or hard drive, if you want to back-up your computer data. Registration is recommended. Acknowledging Loss Discussion Support Group and Program Series: Healing Begins when We Honor What is Gone — 1st Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, 2nd Wednesday of the month at 12 p.m. via Zoom, Presented in Partnership with Foundation for Senior Services. Loss isn’t just about what’s missing—it’s about what mattered. In a culture that rushes to “move on,” we often bypass the most essential parts of true healing and personal growth—to actively engage in the full range of our emotions and begin to honor the experience of grief and loss. This is not about fixing or forgetting—it’s about integrating memories in a way that brings peace, meaning, and wholeness to our lives. Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy – Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to Noon. The Center for Health Care Rights provides free Medicare and Medi-Cal counseling and advocacy services. Appointments are required and can be made by visiting the Welcome Desk.
Medicare Resource Fair – Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Medicare Open Enrollment is Oct. 15, 2025 to Dec. 7, 2025. “Open Enrollment” individuals will be able to make changes to their medical insurance for 2026. Reassessing health care needs each year and comparing programs can help keep costs down and maximize benefits. Checking your current Medicare and Prescription drug plans with other programs, and making any necessary changes ensures that you receive the best possible health care.

Path to Emotional Strength: Reducing Stress & Anxiety – Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom, presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Gain practical tools and insights to regulate emotions, calm the mind, and manage overwhelm. Learn how to restore equilibrium and reconnect with your inner resources for stability and hope. Scam and Fraud Self-Defense Workshop – Thursday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Wise and Healthy Living. This is an interactive discussion on scams and fraud. We will help participants identify the latest scams, learn how to report instances of fraud to law enforcement, and develop tools to help combat scammers. This discussion will include a live question and answer session to address participant’s concerns. Registration is required for this online event. Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Oct. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans, and answer questions that you may have. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. Health Enrichment Program – Fridays, Oct. 17, 24, and 31, at 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. This program led by USC Occupational Students, presents opportunities to enhance well-being with practices designed to advance and improve daily function through physical, cognitive, emotional, and social health. Participants receive instruction in and practice movements to gain strength, power, and mobility to complete successful strength training workouts as well as achieve improvement in daily tasks, such as getting up from the floor, climbing stairs, sitting down and standing up, plus much more. Whether you need assistance with your smartphone, tablet, or computer, this is a valuable chance to get those questions about your device answered. Let us help you make the most of your devices and explore the possibilities of the digital world.
Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.
Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
