FREE NOVEMBER EVENTS HOSTED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout November. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend.
Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required. Registration links can be found at www.PasadenaSeniorCenter.org. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.
Community Dia De Los Muertos Ofrenda – Monday, Nov. 3, to Friday, Nov. 7, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Join us in honoring the memories of loved ones. All are invited to contribute to the ofrenda by bringing photos or small token of remembrance of those they wish to commemorate. To conclude the celebration, we will gather for light refreshments on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. All are welcome to share this meaningful tradition of remembrance and community.
Guided Tours of Pasadena Senior Center – Mondays, Nov. 3, 10, 17, and 24, at noon and Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20, and 27, at 10 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Take a guided tour with a PSC ambassador and learn how the center can enhance your life. Acknowledging Loss Discussion Support Group and Program Series: Healing Begins when We Honor What is Gone — 1st Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, 2nd Wednesday of the month at 12 p.m. via Zoom, Presented in Partnership with Foundation for Senior Services. Loss isn’t just about what’s missing—it’s about what mattered. In a culture that rushes to “move on,” we often bypass the most essential parts of true healing and personal growth—to actively engage in the full range of our emotions and begin to honor the experience of grief and loss. This is not about fixing or forgetting—it’s about integrating memories in a way that brings peace, meaning, and wholeness to our lives. Join these discussion groups to share experiences and receive support from others in a compassionate, safe, and confidential space as we work through the healing journey. Flu Shot Clinic – Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Pasadena Health Department. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend the flu vaccine as the best way to protect people against the flu and prevent its spread. Know the Scams, Don’t be a Victim – Thursday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. As technology improves and as the older adult population increases, financial abuse of older adults is becoming more frequent. We will define financial exploitation, identify common scam techniques, teach you how to identify a scam, and present tips on preventing scams and how to deal with them. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Nov. 7: “The Ides of March” (2011, R) starring Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. A political drama between two Democratic primary candidates in Ohio. Nov. 14: “Hacksaw Ridge” (2016, R) starring Andrew Garfield and Sam Worthington. The true story of a pacifist drafted into WWII, and the deeds that won him a Congressional Medal of Honor. Nov. 21: “Babette’s Feast" (1987, G) starring Stephane Audran and Jean-Philippe Lafont. A strict religious community in a Danish village takes in a French refugee from the Franco-Prussian War as a servant to the late pastor's daughters.

Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Each box includes foods that meet specific nutritional needs, such as cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products, and more. Proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients. Boxes are heavy, so bring a pull-behind personal cart to the parking lot between the Pasadena Senior Center and the Metro Gold Line station. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy – Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to Noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. The Center for Health Care Rights provides free Medicare and Medi-Cal counseling and advocacy services. Appointments are required and can be made by visiting the Welcome Desk.
What Does Your Medicare Advantage Plan Cover or Not Cover? – Thursday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. You might be thinking, "Medicare covers that, right?" It doesn't hurt to ask to make sure, but sometimes, people move into retirement years with an incorrect assumption on what Medicare does or doesn't cover. Come get the facts! Where it All Started: Disc Golf at Oak Grove in Pasadena – Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Mark Horn, Founding Member of the Professional Disc Golf Association. This December marks the 50th anniversary of the Oak Grove Disc Golf Course at Hahamongna Watershed Park — the world’s first publicly accessible disc golf course, established in 1975. Join Disc Golf Tournament Director Mark Horn, who was there from the very beginning. Mark will share the fascinating story of how a simple idea — throwing a Frisbee at a pole — evolved into an international sport, and the unique role Pasadena played in shaping its legacy. What is Metro Riders Club? – Thursday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by LA Metro. On the Move Riders Program provides older adults (62+) the confidence to ride LA's robust Transit System. Transit tours provide hands-on experience, and participants can utilize information from our workshop to plan trips and start travel clubs. We will provide an overview of On the Move Riders Program, tell you how to apply for a Senior reduced fare TAP cards, how to plan a trip, highlight accessibility features on the system and how to report incidents – increasing your safety. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to resolve conflicts with the help of a trained mediator, including property ownership, landlord/tenant disputes, workplace/employment issues, family disagreements and more. #AgeWell Round Table – Thursday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. What’s On Your Mind? Let’s Talk About It! This will be a supportive and confidential setting where participants are seen, heard, and understood. Roundtables provide an environment to listen to learn from one another, share experiences and insights, where all viewpoints, fears and feelings are valued by the group. Based on participant needs and requests, specialists will address specific topics of interest in the on-going roundtable sessions.
Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Nov. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans, and answer questions that you may have. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. Bilingual Tech Help Program – Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, with Bilingual Instructor Mariana Porras. Learn how to navigate social media platforms, send texts, check voice mails, set alarms, and more. Whether you need assistance with your smartphone, tablet, or computer, this is a valuable chance to get those questions about your device answered. Let us help you make the most of your devices and explore the possibilities of the digital world.
Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.
Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
