FREE JANUARY EVENTS HOSTED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout January. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend.
Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required. Registration links can be found at www.PasadenaSeniorCenter.org. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.
Guided Tours of Pasadena Senior Center – Mondays, Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26, at noon and Thursdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, and 29, at 10 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Take a guided tour with a PSC ambassador and learn how the center can enhance your life. Peek in on various activities at the center, such as an art class, dance lessons, computer lab and dozens more, and learn everything else about this first- ever accredited senior center in California. Finding Your Best Fit: Aging in Place vs. Rightsizing – Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. This course is designed to help you make informed, confident decisions about their future living situation. We’ll explore the pros and cons of aging in place and rightsizing, debunk common myths, and walk through a simple decision framework to assess your home’s fit. Through real-life stories, practical tips, and a short reflective activity, you'll gain clarity on which path best supports your lifestyle, safety, and goals. Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Jan. 9, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Preregistration for the program with proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients; the Food Bank is currently not accepting new enrollments. Seniors not currently enrolled in the program will be put on a waiting list and informed of other available food sources. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Jan. 9, 16, 23, and 30, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Jan. 9: “My Favorite Year” (1982, PG) starring Peter O'Toole and Mark Linn-Baker. A man is stuck managing his washed-up childhood hero at the variety show he writes for. Jan. 16: “Life of Pi” (2012, PG) starring Suraj Sharma and Irrfan Khan. A shipwrecked boy must brave the journey back to land with a fearsome Bengal tiger as the only other survivor. Jan. 23: “Across the Universe" (2007, PG-13) starring Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess. A musical tale of romance, war, and peace set against the songs of the Beatles. Jan. 30: “Das Boot" (1981, R) starring Juregen Prochnow and Herbert Gronemeyer. The crew of a German submarine during World War II must contend with tense conflicts.

Live Your Life with Diabetes – Thursday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Huntington Hospital. There are nine things that you can do each day to take care of your diabetes. Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Jan. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans, and answer questions that you may have. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. JazzZone Celebrates MLK, Jr. – Saturday, Jan. 17, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Get your groove on with a special concert celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and our resilience as a community. The JazzZone is the group who makes cool jazz sizzle, and their jazz, blues, and R & B will have you smiling and swaying. Dancing is encouraged! This concert is indoors and open to all. Grief: Beyond Emotions, Physical & Cognitive Effects – Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Grief affects more than just your emotions, impacting your brain, body, and nervous system. This session explores the physical and cognitive changes that can accompany loss, providing insight and guidance to support the healing process. Registrations requested. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, Jan. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to resolve conflicts with the help of a trained mediator, including property ownership, landlord/tenant disputes, workplace/employment issues, family disagreements and more. Jigsaw Puzzle Completion Challenge – Tuesday, Jan. 27, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Join us for a fun and relaxed jigsaw puzzle challenge! We’ll provide all the puzzles—just bring yourself and get ready to enjoy a good time. Teams of four are needed. If you already have a group register their names with Social Services. Medicare 101 – Thursday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Alta Med Health Group. Receive a basic overview of the U.S. federal health insurance program primarily for people aged 65 and older, but also available to certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific conditions (like End-Stage Renal Disease). Come and find out who is eligible, what the different parts of the program provide, how to supplement medicare coverage, when to enroll, and other important facts you need to know. Bilingual Tech Help Program – Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, with Bilingual Instructor Mariana Porras. Learn how to navigate social media platforms, send texts, check voice mails, set alarms, and more. Whether you need assistance with your smartphone, tablet, or computer, this is a valuable chance to get those questions about your device answered. Let us help you make the most of your devices and explore the possibilities of the digital world.
Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.
Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley.
