FREE MARCH EVENTS HOSTED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER

Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout March. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend.

Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required. Registration links can be found at www.PasadenaSeniorCenter.org. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.

Guided Tours of Pasadena Senior Center – Mondays, Mar. 2, 9, 16, and 23, at noon and Thursdays, Mar. 5, 12, 19, and 26, at 10 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Take a guided tour with a PSC ambassador and learn how the center can enhance your life. Peek in on various activities at the center, such as an art class, dance lessons, computer lab and dozens more, and learn everything else about this first- ever accredited senior center in California. Word Search Challenge! & Raffle – Monday, Mar. 2 to Friday, Mar. 27, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Sponsored by Social Services. Start the month with a fun, brain-boosting activity! Legal Consultations – Thursday, Mar. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn about wills and trusts, conservatorships, durable powers of attorney and estate planning. To schedule a required appointment, call (626) 795-4331.

Food For Thought: Changing my Diet to Manage my Health– Thursday, Mar. 5, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Independence at Home: A Scan Health Plan. There is an old saying “we are what we eat” Is that true? Sometimes certain foods can improve or help prevent medical conditions and sometimes the wrong food can make medical conditions worse. We will discuss how food affects certain medical conditions and how you may be able to improve your health. Registration is required for this online lecture. Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Mar. 6, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Preregistration for the program with proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients; the Food Bank is currently not accepting new enrollments. Seniors not currently enrolled in the program will be put on a waiting list and informed of other available food sources. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Journey Through Grief – Fridays, Mar. 6 through Apr. 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, presented by Vitas Healthcare. A death changes those left behind. The grief that follows such a loss is natural but many of us find our own reactions are unexpected. This is a 6-week Grief Group series. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Mar. 6, 13, 20, and 27, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Mar. 6: “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951, PG) starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh. A family drama about a troubled former schoolteacher moving in with her sister. Based on the play by Tennessee Williams. Mar. 13: “Rudy” (1993, PG) starring Sean Austin and Ned Beatty. A young man seeks to overcome financial and educational hardships to achieve his dream of playing football for the University of Notre Dame. Mar. 20: “Greenfingers" (2000, R) starring Clive Owen and Helen Mirren. A story of redemption that tickles the funny bone and touches the soul. Mar. 27: “Tortilla Soup" (2001, PG-13) starring Hector Elizondo and Jacqueline Obradors. Three grown sisters try to cope with living with their father, a veteran chef who is slowly losing his sense of taste, in this family drama. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30 p.m., starting Mar. 10 onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, sponsored by Partners in Care. Take control with exercise! This evidence-based program uses gentle, physical therapist–designed movements to reduce pain, fatigue, and stiffness while improving strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Exercises are suitable for all fitness levels and can be done sitting or standing. Benefits of the program include reduced pain, improved overall health and energy, increased flexibility and mobility, and better sleep and mood. Smart Health for Strong Women – Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 9:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, presented by Huntington Health. The saying, "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" is especially true when it comes to health.  This fun, educational talk focuses on women's unique health needs, with simple tips for staying mentally and physically strong as we age.  Perfect for women and anyone who loves them! Protect Yourself Against Scams and Fraud – Thursday, Mar. 12, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Each year, older adults in the U.S. lose an estimated $2–$4 billion to scams and fraud. As technology advances, these scams are becoming harder to recognize. Join us to learn about the most common fraud tactics, how technology is used to make them more convincing, and what you can do to protect yourself. Registration is required for this online event. MUSE/IQUE On the Road – Monday, Mar. 16, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. An informal hour of music and conversation highlighting the curation and music from MUSE/IQUE’s 2026 season. This month’s program features music and stories from MUSE/IQUE’s March concert Quincy’s World: The New Founding Father of American Music. Registration is recommended. Senior Games: Winning Never Grows Old – Monday, Mar. 16, at 2 p.m. via Zoom, Presented by California Senior Games Association. Participating in competitive sports doesn’t have an age limit. Olympic-style sports competitions for adults 50+, known as Senior Games, encourage adults to stay fit, make friends, and sometimes even set world records through competitive sports. Join host Anne Warner Cribbs, Olympian (1960), who along with a panel of athletes will share tips and challenges for staying competitive in mind and body through sports. Navigating Loss with Grace and Wisdom – Wednesday, Mar. 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Grief is not something to “get over” but a path to walk through with intention and care. This session offers a compassionate roadmap for navigating the terrain of loss with dignity and inner strength. This lecture will have a particular focus on those affected by the Eaton Wildfire however, all are welcome to participate. Registration is suggested. Cognitive and Behavioral Changes Across Disease Stages– Thursday, Mar. 19, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Vivid Life Home Care. This session helps caregivers understand how cognitive, behavioral, and functional changes present across early, middle, and later stages of dementia and other age-related conditions. Participants learn to distinguish normal aging from concerning changes, recognize shifts in memory, communication, mood, judgment, and daily functioning, and identify changes from a person’s baseline. The focus is on observation, documentation, and appropriate communication rather than diagnosis or treatment. Registration is required for this online event. The Metro Mobile TAP Card Customer Center – Friday, Mar. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, sponsored by LA Metro. Get a TAP card to load and use for Metro transportation services. Please bring your current form of ID, California driver’s license or passport.

Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Mar. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center.  Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans, and answer questions that you may have. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. Take the Sustained Athlete Fitness Exam (SAFE) – Tuesday, Mar. 24, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, conducted by Students and Staff of CSUN Department of Physical Therapy. The SAFE exam assesses athlete fitness in four areas: cardiovascular, muscular, flexibility, and balance, and leaves you with tips and ideas to increase your fitness. The screening is provided by graduate students and staff from California State University Northridge (CSUN) Department of Physical Therapy. Registration is required and space is limited. Jigsaw Puzzle Completion Challenge – Tuesday, Mar. 24, at 1:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Join us for a fun and friendly jigsaw puzzle challenge! All puzzles will be provided, just bring yourself and enjoy the fun. Teams of four are needed. If you have a group already, just register with Social Services. If not, we’ll match you with a team. Standing Strong: Smart Strategies for Fall Prevention – Thursday, Mar. 26, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Join us for an engaging discussion on how to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Learn simple, everyday tips to stay safe and steady so you can remain active, confident, and independent at home and in your community. Registration is required for this online event. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, Mar. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to resolve conflicts with the help of a trained mediator, including property ownership, landlord/tenant disputes, workplace/employment issues, family disagreements and more. Acknowledging Loss Discussion Support Group and Program Series: Healing Begins when We Honor What is Gone — 1st Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, 2ndWednesday of the month at 12 p.m. via Zoom, Presented in Partnership with Foundation for Senior Services. Loss isn’t just about what’s missing—it’s about what mattered. In a culture that rushes to “move on,” we often bypass the most essential parts of true healing and personal growth—to actively engage in the full range of our emotions and begin to honor the experience of grief and loss. This is not about fixing or forgetting—it’s about integrating memories in a way that brings peace, meaning, and wholeness to our lives. Join these discussion groups to share experiences and receive support from others in a compassionate, safe, and confidential space as we work through the healing journey. Bilingual Tech Help Program – Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center.  Learn how to navigate social media platforms, send texts, check voicemails, set alarms, and more. Whether you need assistance with your smartphone, tablet, or computer, this is a valuable chance to get those questions about your device answered. Let us help you make the most of your devices and explore the possibilities of the digital world.

Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration begins at 11 a.m. A donation of $3 is suggested but not required. For more information, call (626) 685-6742.

Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone who is 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.

Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
