MUSICAL EXPLORATIONS WILL BE THEME FOR SUMMER TERM OF THE MASTERS SERIES

Masters Series favorite and KUSC Classical radio host Alan Chapman will share his encyclopedic knowledge of music with multimedia presentations during the six week-long ‘Alan Chapman LIVE’ summer Master’s Series, beginning on Tuesday, June 30 and running consecutive Tuesdays through August 4 at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center.

Now in his 42nd year as a valued contributor to the Center’s Masters Series, Chapman will kick off this year’s series with a brand-new installment of his Musical Alphabet, a potpourri of musical topics. Along the way, he’ll shine the spotlight on Giuseppe Verdi (composer of La Traviata and Aida) and Claude Debussy (considered the father of musical impressionism) and take you on a musical journey to the north and south.

To attend all six lectures, tuition is $90 for members and $108 for non-members. Individual lecture tickets may be purchased for $18 for members and $20 for non-members. The lectures are in-person and will not be recorded. Reservations are suggestions and tickets will be available at the door.

The six-week Masters Series features:

June 30: Musical Alphabet – Episode 13

July 7: Look to the North

July 14: The Operas of Verdi

July 21: Look to the South

July 28: Musical Alphabet – Episode 14

August 4: Debussy

Alan Chapman has had a multifaced career in music — from being a college music professor and popular pre-concert lecture, to roles on the radio and on the performance stage. With a Ph.D. in music theory from Yale, his impressive resume includes a number of powerful performances (including his own original songs), with appearances at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Lincoln Center. In the last decade, Alan developed the “Music 101” series for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which is still going strong. His entire family is musical, and the four of them performed as the Von Chaps on a 19-concert tour of China in 2019.

The Pasadena Senior Center’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism.
