COLONIAL DANCE WORKSHOP AT PASADENA SENIOR CENTER ON JULY 12

Did you know that George Washington loved to dance? While he was probably no Fred Astaire, our founding father thought that dance was ‘so agreeable and innocent an amusement.’ Learn about the types of dances that colonial Americans partook of with ‘George Washington Danced Here: Colonial Dance Workshop’ onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center on Sunday, July 12 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In this special event that is part presentation and part dance lesson, PSC events director Annie Laskey and dance leader James Hutson will explore dances popular in colonial American. Attendees will have the opportunity to dance them too. No dance experience or partners needed, and colonial-era refreshment are included.

Tickets are only $10 for members, $15 for non-members, and reservations are suggested. To register or for more information, visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and click on Activities & Events, then Special Events, or call 626-795-4331.

James Hutson has a decades-long career as a dance leader specializing in English Country, Contra, and Square Dance. He conducted workshops for dancers and dance leaders at various music and dance festivals throughout California, and co-founded Culver City English Country Dance. He led dances for the Bay Area Country Dance Society, Pasadena’s Historical Tea and Dance Society, and the Jane Austen Society of North America, among many others.

Annie Laskey joined the Pasadena Senior Center as the Director of Events in April 2017. Her position includes producing educational lectures, social parties, music concerts, and athletic events. A Los Angeles native, she graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Theater. For over 25 years she has been active in the folk and vintage dance community as a dancer and dance leader.

The Pasadena Senior Center’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism and community activism. With 10,000 Americans per day becoming older adults, the center is a leader in addressing issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population group.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults than any other organization in the San Gabriel Valley. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. To learn more visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call 626-795-4331.
