FREE SEPTEMBER EVENTS HOSTED BY PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout September. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend.
Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required. Registration links can be found at www.PasadenaSeniorCenter.org. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.
Guided Tours of Pasadena Senior Center – Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. During the tour, our knowledgeable guides will unveil the hidden gems of our center, showcasing the diverse range of programs and services we offer. From engaging classes and workshops to energizing fitness activities and community events, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Building Brain-Healthy Habits – Monday, Sept. 21, at 1:30 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, presented by The STEP Initiative (Support, Treatment, Education, and Prevention), a student-led community organization at West Ridge School. Healthy lifestyle habits can help support brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Whether you're interested in maintaining your own cognitive health or helping a loved one, this informative presentation will provide practical tips and valuable resources. Summer Concert Series – Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. We’re celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary with a line up for American music from Broadway tunes to country, Roots music to Big Band. Each week features a different style of music – perfect for dancing and celebrating together.

Monthly Word Search Challenge & Giveaway – Tuesday, Sept. 1 to Friday, Sept. 25, onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, sponsored by Social Services. Start the month with a fun, brain-boosting activity! Basic Book Writing Workshop – Wednesdays, Sept. 2 to 23, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. All are welcome to enjoy an informative and supportive class experience, gaining helpful insights and sharing feedback with peers to move their writing projects forward. Supporting Emotional Well-Being of Caregivers – Thursday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Vivid Life Home Care. This session addresses the emotional and mental health needs of caregivers. Participants explore common stressors such as burnout, compassion fatigue, and role strain, and learn practical strategies to build resilience, set healthy boundaries, and practice self-care. The session highlights communication skills, peer support, and recognizing when additional support is needed, reinforcing that caregiver well-being is essential to sustaining high-quality care. Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Sept. 4 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Preregistration for the program with proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Sept. 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Sept. 4 “Matewan” (1987, PG-13) starring Chris Cooper and James Earl Jones. A labor union organizer comes to an embattled mining community in 1920 West Virginia, brutally and violently dominated and harassed by the mining company. Sept. 11: “Man on Wire" (2008, PG-13) starring Philippe Petit and Jean François Heckel. A look at tightrope walker Philippe Petit's daring, but illegal, high-wire routine performed between New York City's World Trade Center's twin towers in 1974. Sept. 18 “Sweet Bean" (2015, NR) starring Kirin Kiki and Masatoshi Nagase. Burdened with a heavy and ever-increasing debt, a dorayaki baker hires a kind aging woman, after tasting her delicious surprise. Little by little, she unravels her beautiful inner world. The Importance of Paper Organization – Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Learn to organize vital documents before a crisis occurs. Veteran Monthly Power Hour – Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Stay active and support your health with an hour designed for Veterans. Take a walk, lift weights, receive guidance on proper exercise form from a trainer, or simply spend time in the Fitness Center with fellow Veterans.
Creating Safe Spaces for Creativity – Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., via Zoom, presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Discover how creative expression can support healing, reduce stress, and inspire self-discovery. Learn how to create welcoming environments that encourage honest expression through art, writing, and storytelling. Stress Management – Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, presented by L.A. Department of Mental Health. This presentation defines stress and describes its different forms and explains the ways in which stress can impact one’s life. Tips are offered to assist older adults in dealing with stress more effectively to improve their quality of life. Registration is required for this online event. Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Sept. 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans, and answer questions that you may have. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. #AgeWell Day 2026 – Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, Presenting Sponsor Home Instead. Join us for a day at the Pasadena Senior Center! This half-day conference celebrates all the ways older adults can be their best selves in mind, body, and spirit. Crime & Mystery Book Club – Once a Month on Saturdays at 10 a.m., Sept. 19, Oct. 24, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Join our crime and mystery book club, where avid readers come together to explore captivating whodunits, thrilling detective stories, and bestselling suspense novels. Jigsaw Puzzle Completion Challenge – Thursday, Sept. 24, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center, presented by Social Services. Put your teamwork to the test! Complete in teams of four to complete a 200-piece jigsaw puzzle. All groups will work on the same design, puzzles are provided. Leaving Peace, Not Problems, for Your Family – Thursday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. via Zoom, presented by Foundation for Senior Services. This educational workshop for seniors and families addresses the stress and conflict that arises when families are unprepared for a loved one's passing, focusing on funeral wishes, paperwork, and finances. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to resolve conflicts with the help of a trained mediator, including property ownership, landlord/tenant disputes, workplace/employment issues, family disagreements and more. Recovery, Renewal and Resilience After Loss — 1st Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. via Zoom, 2nd Wednesday of the month at 12 p.m. via Zoom, presented in Partnership with Foundation for Senior Services. Join this uplifting and support group to reflect on the next phase of the journey after loss. Each week the Foundation for Senior Services specialists will guide seniors and families through real-life stories and meaningful activities that encourage healing, emotional resilience, and renewed connection. Through conversation, creativity, and self-discovery exercises, participants explore ways to move forward with greater strength and a deeper appreciation for the life that continues to unfold. Help with Handheld Devices – Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Join us in our state-of-the-art Technology Lab on Saturdays where we will provide one-on-one assistance for those who need assistance with cell phones, iPads, and laptops. Get help with everyday technology questions in a friendly, supportive environment. No need to make a reservation. Just stop by!
Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. The Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration begins at 11 a.m. A donation of $3 is suggested but not required. Therapy and Case Management in Spanish and English – Ongoing. Are you interested in talking or connecting? Are you looking for resources? At the Pasadena Senior Center we provide therapy and case management in English and Spanish for those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fire. We are also providing ongoing care to all others. Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.
Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
