FREE OCTOBER MOVIES AT PASADENA SENIOR CENTER
FOR MEMBERS AND GUESTS 50 AND OLDER

Friday movie matinees will be shown Oct. 7 to 28 at 1 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., including three currently in theaters and one 2019 award-winning foreign film.

Seating will be limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each member of the Pasadena Senior Center may reserve one additional seat for a nonmember guest 50 or older.

“Top Gun: Maverick” (2022, PG-13) starring Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly – Friday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. After 30 years, Maverick is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator but must confront his past when he leads Top Gun’s elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it. This is a sequel to the original 1986 film.

“And Then We Danced” (2019, NR) starring Levan Gelbakhiani and Bachi Valishvili – Friday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. In this coming-of-age tale set amid the conservative confines of modern Tbilisi, a competitive dancer named Merab is thrown off balance by the arrival of Irakli, a fellow male dancer with a rebellious streak. Georgian with English subtitles.

“Elvis” (2022, PG-13) starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks – Friday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. The film tells the fact-based story of Elvis Presley from his childhood to becoming the King of Rock and Roll and a movie star from the 1950s to ‘70s while enduring a complex relationship with his manager, Col. Tom Parker.

“Hocus Pocus 2” (2022, PG) starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy – Friday, Oct 28, at 1 p.m. Just in time for Halloween! Three high school students light a mysterious candle that brings the diabolical Sanderson sisters back to life in modern-day Salem more than 300 years after they were hanged for witchcraft, then the girls must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world. This is a sequel to the original 1993 film.

In addition to online classes, onsite events and other activities, members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center are encouraged to visit the website regularly for highlights of a quarterly magazine, free food delivery for older adults in need, COVID updates specifically for older adults and more. 

The center is an independent, donor-supported nonprofit organization that has served older adults for more than 60 years. During the pandemic, doors are open Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for social services as well as the library, Sy Graff Fitness Center, computer lab and limited occupancy for events. Rooms are sanitized after each use. Many other events and activities are offered via Zoom.

In accordance with Pasadena Public Health Department guidelines, proof of COVID vaccination is required for everyone who uses the fitness center or attends onsite activities indoors. Masks are highly recommended.
